Palm Wax Candles

Some of the most beautiful candles you'll ever see are made using palm wax. Palm wax is an all natural wax that creates a harder candle than using soy. There are a number of different palm waxes available and each creates an entirely different candle. We offer Starburst Pillar Palm Wax and Crystal Container Palm Wax. The price is fairly competitive to soy, except Palm Wax provides you with so many added benefits.

You can see the 2 different candles in the blog made with both types of wax. You will notice when using the palm wax the candles appear pastel in color similar to soy wax. If you look closely you can see the pattern on the outside of the pillar candle, the "starburst" effect. This candle is unique and if you are selling your products it is a good idea to provide a candle that is different to the candles provided at the booth down the row. Many sellers can charge extra on Palm Wax candles because they are very appealing and have huge selling points. Some selling points to remember to pitch are:

I'VE BEEN MAKING CANDLES FOR MORE YEARS THAN I CARE TO REMEMBER.YOU USUALLY CAN'T GET ALL THE INFO YOU NEED ON A PARTICULAR CRAFT BECAUSE MOST CRAFTSPEOPLE ARE NOT ALL THAT WILLING TO SHARE THEIR SECRETS.WELL I AM.I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANYONE GIVE UP A HOBBY OR A POTENTIAL BUSINESS BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GET SOMETHING TO WORK.

FIRST THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS YOU CAN'T MAKE A TART OUT OF PURE SOY WAX.THE WAX IS TOO SOFT AND YOUR PIECE WILL BREAK INTO A MILLION PIECES EITHER WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE OR SOON AFTER.ADD EITHER 25 OR 50%PARAFIN WAX TO MAKE IT HARDER.YOU SHOULD HAVE NO TROUBLE THEN.NO NEED TO ADD ANY OTHER ADDITIVES AS A MATTER OF FACT,IF YOU ARE USING LATEX RUBBER MOLDS FOR YOUR TARTS YOU SHOULDN'T USE STEARIC ACID.IT WILL CAUSE YOUR CANDLE TO STICK TO THE MOLD LIKE GLUE.ADD YOUR SCENT JUST BEFORE POURING,MAKE SURE YOU WEIGH YOUR WAX BEFORE MELTING THAT WAY YOU KNOW HOW MUCH FRAGRANCE TO USE.RULE OF THUMB IS 1/2 TO 1 OZ.PER LB.OF WAX.NOW THIS IS NOT LAW BECAUSE THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT GRADES OF FRAGRANCE OUT THERE.USE THE MINIMUM AMOUNT THEN SMELL.IF IT DOESN'T SMELL LIKE IT HAS ENOUGH SCENT ADD MORE.DO NOT ADD MORE THAN 1 1/4 OZ. AS THIS WILL MAKE YOUR CANDLE WEEP.THE GOOD THING ABOUT CANDLE AND SOAPMAKING IS IF IT DOESN'T COME OUT RIGHT THE FIRST TIME,YOU CAN ALWAYS REMELT AND TRY AGAIN.IF YOU HAVE ADDED TOO MUCH SCENT JUST REMELT AND ADD MORE WAX.

SECOND THING YOU NEED TO KNOW IS IF YOU ARE USING A METAL MOLD AND YOU CAN'T GET YOUR PIECE OUT,PUT IT IN THE FREEZER FOR 5 MIN.OR SO.DON'T LEAVE IT IN TOO LONG AS THE WAX WILL CRACK.WAIT TILL THE CANDLE IS COMPLETELY COOL THEN POP IN FREEZER.AFTER 5 MIN OR SO REMOVE AND TAP ON THE COUNTER.IT SHOULD FALL RIGHT OUT SO BE CAREFULL IF IT'S A FRAGILE PIECE.

USE FRAGRANCE OILS IN YOUR CANDLES AND ESSENTIAL OILS IN YOUR BODY PRODUCTS.NEVER USE CINNAMON ANYTHING IN BODY PRODUCTS,IT CAN BURN SKIN IF NOT USED PROPERLY.I AVOID IT SO THERE WON'T BE A PROBLEM.DO YOUR RESEARCH ON ESSENTIAL OILS BEFORE PURCHASING.BUY FROM A REPUTABLE COMPANY BUT CHECK PRICES.THEY VARY GREATLY.

USE ONLY COLOR CHIPS TO DYE YOUR CANDLES OR LIQUID OR POWDER COLORANT.THERE ARE SOME PLACES THAT WILL SELL YOU WHAT THEY CALL COLOR BLOCKS BUT ALL THEY ARE MADE OF IS COLORED PARAFIN.THIS IS NOT A DYE AND WILL NOT WORK LIKE A COLOR CHIP.YOU GET JUST WATERED DOWN COLOR.NOT VERY PLEASANT.DON'T BUY LARGE POTS TO MELT YOUR WAX IN.YOU WONT MELT 20 LBS OF WAX AT A TIME AND BELIEVE ME YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE LIFTING A POT WITH 20 LBS OF MELTED WAX IN IT.I USE A VERY SMALL CROCK POT FOR MY ALL DAY VENTURES,MAKE SURE YOU UNPLUG PERIODICALLY AS THE WAX WILL GET TOO HOT.CHECK TEMP.ON A REGULAR BASIS,EVERY 15 MIN. OR SO.IF TEMP IS ABOVE 170 TURN IT OFF FOR A WHILE.YOU DON'T NEED A LARGE POT WITH A SPIGOT ON IT EITHER,A LADLE WORKS MUCH BETTER.LADLE WHATEVER YOU NEED INTO A GLASS MEASURING CUP,ADD YOUR COLORING,WAIT TILL IT COOLS TO A LITTLE ABOVE POUR TEMPERATURE,THAN ADD YOUR OIL.POUR INTO MOLDS.VERY SIMPLE.ALLOW YOUR CANDLES TO SIT FOR A FEW DAYS TO REST BEFORE BURNING.

TAKE CHANCES,IF IT DOESN'T WORK YOU CAN ALWAYS REMELT.YOU CAN USE MANY THINGS AROUND THE HOUSE AS MOLDS ALSO.JUST MAKE SURE THEY ARE HEAT RESISTANT AND THE DONT HAVE A LIP ON TOP TO IMPEDE REMOVAL.PLAY WITH YOUR FRAGRANCES.ADD ALITTLE OF THIS TO A LITTLE OF THAT BUT MAKE SURE YOU WRITE IT DOWN CAUSE IF YOU LIKE IT YOU CAN MAKE MORE.YOU CAN USE THE MICROWAVE OR A DOUBLE BOILER(SMALL ONE)ALSO TO MELT WAX.USE A GLASS MEASURING CUP IN THE MICROWAVE AS THE PLASTIC ONES WILL MELT.ALWAYS USE CAUTION WHEN PLAYING WITH HOT WAX.USE AN OVEN MITT,MEASURING CUP WILL BE HOT.AND UNDER NO CICUMSTANCES,NEVER,NEVER,NEVERAND I REPEAT NEVER,PLAY WITH YOUR HOT WAX WHEN THERE ARE SMALL CHILDREN AROUND.ACCIDENTS CAN HAPPEN IN AN INSTANT AND HOT WAX ON A BABIES TENDER SKIN WOULD BE DEVASTATING SO DON'T DO IT.MAKE SURE CHILDREN CANNOT ENTER THE ROOM IN WHICH YOU ARE WORKING.IT'S AS SIMPLE AS THAT.YOU NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON WHAT YOU ARE DOING.

FINALLY AND THIS IS THE MOST IMPORTANT.DON'T LET ANYONE TALK YOU INTO BUYING MORE THAN YOU NEED FOR YOUR HOBBY.START WITH THE BARE MINIMUM THAN ADD THINGS A LITTLE AT A TIME.YOU DON'T REALLY NEED A STAINLESS STEAL POURING POT.GLASS WORKS JUST AS WELL AND IS MUCH CEAPER.PARAFIN WAX COMES IN ALL DIFFERENT SHAPES.YOU CAN BUY IT IN SLABS OR GRANULATED.I'LL TELL YOU RIGHT NOW,SLABS ARE HARD TO WORK WITH.THEY ARE DIFFICULT TO BREAK AND TAKE A LONG TIME TO MELT.GRANULES ARE BETTER IF YOU CAN FIND THEM.BEESWAX ALSO COMES IN SLABS AND GRANULES.THE SLABS ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO CUT.THE GRANULES ARE A WHOLE LOT EASIER TO WORK WITH,ALTHOUGH THEY ARE NOT AS EASILY CLEANED OFF YOUR UTENSILS LIKE SOY AND PARAFIN.
